Also, for anyone that's already looking ahead to 2020, keep an eye on John Kasich. He's been making a lot of noises like he might run as an independent to hose Trump if he runs for a second term. He is super popular in Ohio, and if he did run, would probably draw a ton of votes in the midwest.

I'll save my 2020 speculating for after we get some closure on the Russia probe. Let's not forget that the president's national security adviser, personal lawyer, campaign chair, and assistant campaign chair are all now convicted felons that are cooperating with prosecutors.

As someone who lives in Kansas City, Kobach just pissed everyone off. He wanted to re-enact the Brownback education stuff that cut a ton of funding and just pissed everyone off. Even the R's in that state fucking hated him.

Remember crying when Obama was elected.?..tears of relief and joy. Last night tears definitely of relief. Don't minimize this...imagine how you'd feel today if we hadn't won the House...

DeSantis did better than Scott because pockets of FL are some of the most backward, southern, racist towns in the country.

That was the race I paid most attention to. I thought, given the polls, that Gillum had not only a chance - but wings for Nelson. As it turns out, being black in FL is still a major liability.

I'm glad felons got back the right to vote, but keep in mind - there are more white felons in FL than African American ones (and plenty of small town racist ones). Also, and this is just my own observation, from having worked in those towns - there's a sense of defeat in some of those 'small southern-like' towns in FL. African Americans feel the oppression as a way of life. It feels like it will never change.

Some years ago, I had a friend who moved from NYC to small town FL. She was waiting in line in a store and the clerk refused to serve her first (kept taking money from the white customers). When she complained, he yelled at her. A cop in the store came over and said, Don't start trouble - because I might think you are stealing something.

She said, in NYC she would go 'toe to toe' with the cop.

In FL, she put back the pack of gum or whatever she wanted to buy and left. She never went back there again.

My point is that getting that energy up again - after this major defeat, in some of those towns.......well, this will be a painful loss - but for many, not unexpected in the least. They expect that racism will win.

    :(

    Welp, here we go.

I don't doubt that the special counsel is well prepared for this moment, but now is the time when citizens really need to act. For as much as people throw around the words "constitutional crisis", this is an actual constitutional crisis. If you don't believe that a US president should be above the law, you should be letting people know it right now.

I'm still trying to finish catching up with all the political news, as I've finally gotten enough sleep to read coherently.

Worked as a precinct captain here in DC and it was bit of a clusterf**k. The quick-ish version is that the precinct I worked at was at a school and there was a whole bunch of (mostly) international media who wanted to film inside. This is allowed as long as they are not questioning voters inside the building, not getting close enough to people's ballots where their choices would be visible, or otherwise impeding the voting process. The school got mad saying that media can only film outside and this has always been the case. After handing the school the media guide saying that media is allowed inside, the school called the Elections board several times and the Elections Board refused to back down.

When the school realized the Board Of Elections weren't going to back down, the school literally called the police. Police decided to back the school for whatever reason, so I had to kick out the media out and tell media arriving later that they can film outside only. It was pouring rain for most of the day, so no media decided to actually film. I hope the Board Of Elections changes the precinct location because it is just totally fucked up to keep the precinct there if that is how the school is going to be.
