I sort of am watching the news....but I'm not reading it. I can't. I've reached my limit of hopelessness.

Instead, I'm looking into buying a mid-range Nikon DSLR camera -- I think that should help me occupy myself better -- rather than feeling overwhelmed every day. Honestly, I can't take it anymore. I live in Vermont. They can outlaw what they want. We're so liberal, even our republican Gov (and I mean this sincerely) will work to protect us. Good luck to the South (and all those other less liberal states).

That sounds like a great idea. Self-care is important. I spent part of the evening clearing out space for more spinning and messing w/ wool. Also thinking about getting a drum carder. Why the fuck not? Express your spirit; make art. Remember who you are and what keeps you going. The news will always be there, even if NATO won't (bah dm tss)

Yep. Jordan Nunes and his cohorts in the traitor caucus are panicking, so they're gonna try to impeach Rosenstein.

I guess that part of the indictment about a Congressional Candidate asking for documents from the GRU (aka Guccifer 2.0) got under someone's skin.

Top Maryland officials say the FBI told them this week that the state's voter registration platform was purchased by a Russian oligarch in 2015, without state officials knowing. The FBI did not indicate a breach occurred, but state officials say they're moving forward with a full review.

"We were briefed late yesterday, along with Governor Hogan, by the Federal Bureau of Investigation that the software vendor who maintains portions of the State Board of Elections voter registration platform was purchased by a Russian investor in 2015, without the knowledge of state officials," Maryland State Senate President Thomas Mike Miller, Jr. and Maryland House Speaker Michael Busch, said in a joint statement Friday.

State officials say they were told they were told their voter registration system, ByteGrid LLC, is financed by AltPoint Capital Partners, whose fund manager is "a Russian" and largest investor is Russian oligarch Vladimir Potanin. ByteGrid LLC performs a vast array of voting-related functions for the state, including voter registration, the state's online voter registration system, online ballot delivery and unofficial election night results.

"While the FBI did not indicate that there was a breach, we were concerned enough to ask Attorney General [Brian] Frosh to review the existing contractual obligation of the state, as well as asked for a review of the system to ensure there have been no breaches," Miller and Busch said.

“The charges indicate that this wasn’t just a campaign by Russia to influence voters, but an effort to hack election software to change the outcome,” Barbara McQuade, a former U.S. attorney in Michigan, told POLITICO.
“This should be a wake-up call to safeguard our upcoming elections as a matter of national security.”

And there's no leadership in Washington (not really) to prevent this from happening again. It also makes you wonder if they didn't succeed somewhere - at some point - in the system.

For all, we know "leadership" is asking for an intervention from Russia. This whole idea that Trump and Putin are having a private sit down without any American officials to take notes on what is being discussed is highly suspect.

It's what I'm thinking, tbh. IRL, I don't go in for conspiracy theories. I'm kind of a sober, rational person. Very careful to use the word 'hypothesis' (I am a Popperian, by training :).
But this is certainly possible. And right before another election.........

I'm with you. My default worldview is skeptical/cynical/logical. It is becoming harder and harder to deny the obvious, though:

We're being attacked. Western democracy is being attacked.

And the "leaders" of our government are doing basically nothing to stop it.

I hear you, and I like to think of myself as a rational person as well. But, I still think this upcoming unsupervised meeting is problematic. If we were dealing with a trustworthy actor I would say give them the benefit of the doubt, but Trump is the antithesis of an honest actor and is a possible co-conspirator in election meddling with Russia. The fact that the guilty party and the beneficiary of the crime (and possible co-conspirator) are meeting in private prior to an election which will most likely be a referendum on his presidency is sketchy at best, especially since the Republican Congress is trying to shield him from an active investigation.
