They'll blame it on mental illness.....but when the person is charged, they'll argue that he's competent and can face the death penalty.

    More on Icahn https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2017/08/28/carl-icahns-failed-raid-on-washington

Here's some of the WTFery enveloping us this week:
https://www.docdroid.net/FfASfDj/we...he-rise-of-russias-most-powerful-oligarch.pdf (profile of Igor Sechin from FT, now paywalled. Putin's guy. More powerful than other oligarchs in this orbit that have been in the news recently e.g., Torshin or Deripaska or Agaralov etc.) (edit: fixed link)

Speaking of Torshin, and the NRA https://www.npr.org/2018/03/01/5900...-politicians-cultivation-of-nra-ties-revealed

    https://www.nytimes.com/2018/02/25/...ions-aimed-at-china-could-ensnare-canada.html Oh great.

A duo of Kushner, the first one is beautifully structured in addition to being bonkers (the second one is more bonkers):

Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see what's racist about that comment. Just seems like a fairly standard juvenile Trump burn to me.

The argument is that not only is he being juvenile, he specifically called her out as dumb because of her race. His juvenile comment, on its surface, can be interpreted without a racist undertone, however, Trump has a very long history of singling out people of color. So the accusation of racism is somewhat of a cumulative representation of his beliefs. Given his track record, he doesn’t get the benefit of the doubt.

Maxine Waters is one of the most partisan members of Congress and one of the most outspoken political opponents of the president. There's no reason to think that Donald Trump wouldn't have lots of horrible things to say about her if she was white, just like he has lots of horrible things to say about all of his political opponents and high profile critics. I'm sure there's a pretty long list of people that he's publicly called stupid. Iirc he even challenged Rex Tillerson to an IQ contest when he got all bent out of shape about being called a moron.

I'm not trying to defend Donald Trump wrt racism. He's said plenty of things that were either just blatantly racist or at least meant to appeal to racists. That being said, we'd probably be a lot better off if people didn't refer to anything that could possibly be racially motivated as "incredibly racist". Part of the reason that a decent amount of somewhat reasonable people can bring themselves to vote for someone like Donald Trump is because their perception of the alternative is also greatly lacking in credibility.

I figure it is being read as some sort of dog whistle to the way testing has been used in the past a) historical use of literacy tests to disenfranchise African Americans; b) given that all of Trump's opinions seem formed during the 1970s-1980s, perhaps something having to do with the racist use of IQ tests as litigated in the late 1970s; c) ...idek this is all getting to be too much. Anyway, for anyone interested here's one version of the transcribed remarks per a pool reporter https://talkingpointsmemo.com/livew...ne-waters-needs-an-iq-test-at-gridiron-dinner

That subpoena news that broke earlier tonight was super fun...infrastructure week is gonna be so awesome!

Frankly, to me it sounds more like what Trump always does - turns things pointed at him towards others. He was accused of having a low IQ - so he turns it to others. I liken it to a game that my sibling would have played when we were 8 (I know you are, but what am I?)

I think the fact that he IS racist makes people question what he says through through that prism. And that's valid.

That's all perfectly plausible, but it's also reading a lot into a comment that absolutely no one would be surprised to see directed at anyone that the president doesn't like. It doesn't make it easier to deal with actual racism when journalists and politicians declare things to be "incredibly racist" that are quite possibly not racist at all.

A lot less people would view Donald Trump and others like him as people who "tell it like it is" if it weren't for a segment of the left that have incredibly intellectually dishonest positions on anything to do with race, religion, and immigration. By association, a lot of politicians who actually have very reasonable positions also get dumped into some kind of Justin Trudeau bucket in the eyes of he public.

Sam Nunberg just lost his mind on live tv. Saying that he's going to rip up the subpoena he got from the special counsel, not turn over emails, etc. I'm not a lawyer, but this seems like a questionable legal strategy...
